I think that we're better than conde nast pitchfork, rolling stone and needledrop put together in terms of music nerdery so let's put out a list. What do you think are the most important songs of the 21st century in all of music (not just hiphop)?
Ok, so in a novel attempt to be some form of objective about this, ive drafted a score system out of 100:
33 points: musical influence. example of a 33 in this is hard in the paint
10 points: major label industry influence. example of a 10 in this is i gotta feeling
12 points: memeability on social media and remixes. Example of a 12: harlem shake.
10 points: is the album its on hot/importance in artist's era. example 10: runaway
10 points: charting numbers. 10 is a billboard no1 for multiple weeks
15 points: historical/political importance. example of a 15: alright
10 points: use in other s***: namedrops, licensed for other media, sampled. example 10: x gon give it to ya
I'm open to revising that scorecard breakdown as that just reflects what i personally believe what makes a song important. I think if we put this together will compelling enough content, we could send it to complex and and other media outlets and publicize it.
Once we all agree on a list we should write up songs and give them scores with a sentence or two justifying the score in each category. writeups that have at least 2 heart likes (or if two people write up the same song with different opinions we'll use the one with the most likes) will have their song and score added to THE LIST, which of course will be sorted in score order.

here's an example writeup:
Ramriddlz - Sweeterman
Musical Influence 24
A coworker of mine linked last week to a song by a chinese pop artist with very political lyrics about the lgbt struggle in that part of the world. the music video for that song has 20 million views. The beat is, strangely, very dancehall, and we know that comes from drake. But where did drake get it? From f***ing sweeterman.
Industry Influence: 5
Drake finally realized that he doesnt have to sign these kids, he can just take their sounds and leave em with a remix
Memeability/remixes: 9
Viral hit that lead to that Drake remix, which as commonly known was removed from soundcloud and reworked into what eventually would become Hotline Bling
Importance to Artist: 7
A breakthrough for Ramriddlz, but from what I understand it was only on his debut project P2P EP as a remix. Ram didn't let it define him tho, and organically moved away from the sound with producer jaagan as he developed as an artist. never lost that sense of humor tho
Numbers: 3
his most popular song. Although the video has 2 million views on youtube, searching billboard's site doesnt even bring up an artist page for ramriddlz
Historical/Political Importance: 5
Helped define the image of toronto, the whole story with drake. otherwise a footnote in terms of movements
Use in other s***: 1
Outside of its influence, I dont know of anything that directly references or uses ramriddlz or this song.
Total score: 53
I know OP did not just post RAMRIDDLZ as one of the 100 most important songs of the decade

BRO FEFE?
this is too broad
how? I'm not limiting the amount of entries on the list, and i think it would be interesting to represent all genres. like, i think stuff like BTSTU should be on the list, but that's not hip hop. plus hiphop got a lot of genres too.
if you mean the indie/major dichotomy i have weighted the scoring to favor the originators of a sound more than whoever made it hot. Does that seem fair?
BRO FEFE?
it fits all the criteria yall switchin up cause 69 antics after release
FEFE almost diamond and went top 3

If you were gonna say a 69 song just put GUMMO, the actually good song that spawned his short career

I mean that 90% of the people on this forum only listen to hiphop and all the replies so far are hiphop
I think having separate threads for each genre would be ideal but a ton of work
