still dont understand why starboy is so long. could cut the album in half, keep the better songs and its still not good.

end of the sentence caught me off guard

  • Apr 27, 2024

but yeah it's Starboy. i'd lose the least if that album disappeared from his discog.

    HOB - classic
    Thursday - classic
    EOS - classic
Kiss Land - cult classic, stan favorite
    BBTM - solid
    Starboy - great
My Dear Melancholy - king s***
After Hours - generational pop album. Concept album like the ol’ days. Already a blassic. Back in form.
Dawn FM - incredible sequecing, production max, underappreciated by dweebs, got lots of heat

    It’s either Starboy or BBTM.
Both trade most of his strengths and uniqueness for a broader pop appeal, and I’m really glad he found a way to be popular and still keep his edge on later albums like After Hours and Dawn

    HOB - 9.8/10 - so many classics
Thursday - 8.5/10 - Amazing, but weakest on Trilogy imo
Echoes of Silence - 9.5 - 2nd best on Trilogy
Kiss Land - 9.6 - Second best in his discog
BBTM - 8.7 - Overhated by stans, so many classics
Starboy - 9.3 - Amazing album, some filler
    though
My Dear Melancholy, - 8.8 - Great EP
After Hours - 10 - Magnum Opus. Best pop album of the 2000s
Dawn FM - 8.5 - Amazing album, weakest in his discography imo. Great concept

People saying Kiss Land like it’s not his best record to date

BBTM or Starboy are only reasonable answers. Both albums can be argued to be the worst for different reasons.

BBTM is like not coherent at all and has some of the less interesting songs in his catalogue. And yes some of the best songs too.

Starboy is more coherent and all songs at least sound like the belong in one album, but it's also bit too long and songs' quality just doesn't justify that. Some of the worst songs he ever released here too, but unlike BBTM there's barely anything in it that would be a top tier Weeknd song.

Personally i'd go with BBTM cuz if we rank ALBUMS then coherency and consistency are more important i think. But really they're both not far apart from each other.

    Both these albums suck

He doesn’t have a bad album, but Starboy is definitely his weakest

He lowkey became a gimmick artist on those. Some good songs on them, but the authenticity is gone for me

explain please cause this makes absolutely no sense whatsoever lol

Starboy is my least favorite album, really only listen to like 4 or 5 songs off that truthfully

A Lonely Night is one of his best pop songs ever though I’ll defend that til I die

underrated song fr. I love the song Attention a lot on there too

On a positive note: the fact that everyone seems to have a different favorite and least favorite really shows his consistency and the strength of his discography overall!
Yeah, there are trends (people who don’t get into him much liking BBTM and Starboy, diehards liking Kiss Land, etc.) but it genuinely seems like there’s at least 1 record in his disco for everyone

Yes it makes. His music became bland and generic, other artists could sing songs from these albums and would be okay, but only Abel could've sing his songs until KL. That's when he was a really unique artist. Production also way more mindblowing on his earlier work, nowadays it just sound like a Pet Shop Boys/Duran Duran ripoff
