this things done. im just not sure if i should post it and try to get lots of eyes on it, or try to send it around and make it real first. im proud of it and i want it to go as far as it can, but i cant figure out what the best avenue is to take with a music video no one asked for.

i disagree. make a splash right now with the drought of CLB and if it's on CLB, they'll DMCA you and reach out since it's probably good enough to put out legitimately.

Most artists have to fake it until they make it. This is the pinnacle of that.

There's a pretty decent chance it's not on CLB since it's been leaked and teased since Greece.

You could also do one of those Tiktoks explaining your process and that would probably also go viral, but I think you have to lean into bootstrapping your own promo vs. trying to legitimize before release. It's extremely unlikely. If it pops then they'll want it.

Final thought - to them an unsolicited music video is perfect guerilla marketing. They don't need the revenues of legitimizing the streams of this video (i.e. putting it on the Drake youtube channel). It's viral marketing for a fan to make this and release it and it doing well on its own.

Final final thought - a friend of mine made an unsanctioned music video for a popular Frank Ocean song.

He got massive press (MTV, Hypebeast, etc.) for it since there was no official video and it led to a multitude of jobs for him.

In his case, no legitimate FO team reached out, but still worth releasing on his own nonetheless.

only concern is losing the opportunity to be paid, but its not like i should expect that anyways. when ive privately posted early drafts on youtube its flagged by UMG with the name of the song, so its at least in the system already.

It'll still be appreciated even if you don't drop it for months. Don't rush yourself. See if you can get in touch with anyone at OVO and maybe they want to use it but if the song isn't dropping officially I wouldn't get your hopes up

The risk with reaching out to OVO is them officially shelving it.
