Calling this a "loser" thread for seeking support after a DUI ignores how common this is. 15.5 million U.S. adults admit to drunk driving annually. It's a widespread issue, especially among drivers aged 21–34. Seeking help is exactly what responsible people do after making a mistake. Shaming people for getting support only makes them less likely to change. If we want fewer DUIs, we should encourage accountability, not stigma.

A drunk driver’s the reason my alma mater has 2 buildings in the memory of 2 girls that went to school and got killed by one.

    F*** drunk drivers.

Like just get a bottle or cup of water or something from the bar and just chill in your car for 45mins.

I will say there are DUI offenses that was literally just this and tbh those should be expunged.

Shouldnt be a crime to just sleep in your car til you sober up

I think the way you can get around that is to leave the car keys in the trunk of the car. Something about clear evidence of not operating the vehicle.

Cop can still arrest you and hit you with a DUI, but it's possible to fight it in court with this method because it's impossible to drive a car while the car keys are in the trunk, and there's no intention to. At most you might get hit with loitering.

I honestly think DUI's should be a heavier offense than they already are.

its f***ing awesome, i remember back when we were lil we thought smoking and drinking was something you do to kinda go against the grain because noone was doing that. thinking back that figures because we were f***ing kids lmao

turns out everybody does it and to really be different you gotta not smoke or drink at all which is unfortunately damn near impossible for a lot of people

I honestly think DUI's should be a heavier offense than they already are.

I think it should be more standardized with different forms of classes too. I know people who's lives were ruined from 1 dui, and I know people who's lives were completely saved but after 4 duis

Even then I kinda think the whole sober court system needs standardization + set up differently from the one my friend went through. I think he did 2 or 3 years even, was extremely draining and impacted a lot of his ability to work. But he's sober now, healthy as f***, and genuinely doing so well

My understanding is all this stuff is county to county. Really crazy to me how much variance exists only in my state.

  • Caught a DUI abut 7 years ago. I was 19. Wasn't even drunk. Bought a case of a beer from a friend, was gonna meet up with some girl I liked at the time.

Cracked one beer open and took a sip. Pulled out of the driveway and wasn't paying attention as I was pulling off. Ran into a parked truck a few blocks down the street. Truck wasnt damaged but my car was totaled.

I was fine physically just a little rattled. Was pissed that my car was totaled. Took the beer out of my car and slammed it on the ground in frustration. (bad move).

Family came outside and cursed me tf out and called the cops. Dad who actually owned the truck was mad cool about it once he noticed his truck was good, he was just like "mistakes happen bro"

Mom was cussing me out in spanish, called me the N word and all types of s***. Talking about " I hate this ghetto as neighborhood." (I didn't even live there lmao).

Ambulance pulls up and checks my vitals and everything. Im good. Cops pull up, daughter found my beer that I slammed on the ground somewhere down the street. She tells the cops she thinks I've been drinking. I'm not worried cause I know whatever test they are gonna do I'm gonna pass (literally had one sip of beer so im still sober)

Cops ask to search my car. I say yes. They see the case of beer in my backseat. They ask If I want to do field sobriety test. I say yes. I pretty much do everything they ask me to do to the T. I never lost balance, never lost count, followed their pen light without wandering my eye. Im convinced I passed with flying colors. Cops still arrest me. ( I almost crashed out then I remembered Im black)

They took me to the station and drew my blood. I stayed in jail for 2 nights. Results came out to .001 BAC in my blood. Somehow still got charged with DUI. Fought the case and eventually got it expunged.

My brother gotta DWI a couple weeks ago.

He was ranting and raving about how he hates police and that he was targeted unfairly. Nigga was going 80mph in a 50 zone and they got dashcam footage of him swerving and switching lanes without signaling. He's still trying to fight it in court.

Dude is a f***in moron and he's definitely about to get his license suspended.

Don't drive drunk. There's literally nothing you can use as an excuse. It's something you knowingly choose to do and it's extremely stupid and s***ty to do. Jeopardizing your life and others' cause you can't just wait to sober up before driving.

Been watching bodycam footage on YouTube lately and it's honestly fascinating how common drunk driving in USA is and how confident people can be that they're fine to drive when they're clearly drunk. They will f*** up walking 9 steps in a straight line and still try to say they're being unfairly targeted, they passed, they shouldn't be arrested etc

I wouldn't take the risk, y'all have some crazy strict laws. Automatic 6 month drivers license suspension just off refusing a breathalyzer is wild
