Speaking of, the story behind why every black character in comics has lightning powers is hilarious.

Basically the guy who came up with the DC character "Black Lightning" owns the rights to the IP, and for decades DC kept wanting to adapt the character in several animated shows, but refused to want to pay the original creator.

So as a work around, they just kept making brand new original characters that were just pastiches of Black Lighting. And they kept doing it so much that it just became a standard.
