Platinum Flame is Lil B’s second 100% self produced mixtape, released in 2018, less than a year after the long anticipated Black Ken. It stands as the ninth entry in B’s long-running “Flame” mixtape series, a collection of mixtapes influenced by Southern hip hop, specifically that from New Orleans.

This tape didn’t get the acclaim or the massive amount of listens of it’s predecessor Black Ken, even though Platinum Flame sounds just like the evil, darker twin of that tape with some hilarious skits to remind you who you’re listening to.

The thick, gurgling synths that drone in the backgrounds of most tracks are intermittently layered with strings, creating an almost Eno-like ambience until the hyphy drum tracks come in. B comes with strictly the grimiest of bars for most of the ~2 hour runtime, addressing topics like pain (mental and physical), the trials and tribulations that money brings, and the desire to just live your life and say f*** the naysayers.

True but that's what happens when you have such a large discography with multiple amazing projects.
