Eh, it is but go off sis
You can’t force someone to downplay who they are simply cause you uncomfortable with it. It’s the same respectability politics bs again lol
Straight dudes can also be very flamboyant. It’s just more common in the gay community.
Idk whT makes you feel like the two are crazy intertwined.
And you can most definitely not f*** w smthing that makes you uncomfortable. I don’t understand you here honestly.
He’s said he’s in this for the sake of money when asked about why he kept remixing OTR and regularly resorts to PR stunts and toilet humor to market himself
What else did he expect
he got big with a novelty song like what do u expect. this is like mc hammer being mad he's not respected in hip hop. or crazy frog being mad he's not a respected artist. or baby shark mad he's not respected as an artist. or the guy that made what does the fox say mad that he's not respected as an artist..
get called a white knight for saying women and lgbtqia+ should be treated fairly bruhs.

because saying you respect one type of person because they're the type of "gay" you feel is acceptable but have a whole nother person who's "gay" you feel isn't acceptable is textbook intolerance.
Yall niggas being intentionally obtuse and goofy on this when there's an actual queer person in the thread saying the same thing is funny to me lol.
But the true colors of this forum showed last week anyways so it's not like anyone's minds are gonna be changed from anything being said here.

I don’t tie any characteristics of ppl to sexuality my g. You can be this or that type of gay, but the reason I will or won’t f*** with your movement is you, not what you do w your d***.
Nas X is an obnoxious troll whose annoying gimmick is based entirely around his sexuality. It could’ve been anything else the way he does it, dude is just a chore.
I think both are true. There’s definitely homophobia in hip hop, like in a lot of places…it’s interesting that hip hop is a consistent target of critique for this. Someone in the thread was pointing out ATCQ had anti gay lyrics. The thing is that this was 30 years ago, and everything was more anti LGBTQ+ 30 years ago.
Also, LNX, seems to like the idea of being counter culture, thrives on it, and seeks it out. When you do that heavy handedly, the base that conflicts with you will engage it and also be vocal about it. Nothing wrong with that approach, but with that approach you’re going to find adversaries and you’re going to have the same over the top personalities come back at you from the other perspective.
For me personally, i think there’s enough room culturally for LNX to exist and do him. He sold well first week, and so he probably does have an audience that identifies with him.
Hiphop is obv still homophobic; we obv got work to do. Its sad that lnx gotta make channel orange level music to be respected (cus that is what its actually gonna take)
However Any oppressed identity gets a strike on them && have to workharder than their peers for equivalent acceptance. Always been this way
Dababy trolling cost him a whole tour and he went to loved by women to hated
Nah he don't
Ayo sway wild as hell for this.
People were saying him coming out via channel orange was a gimmick to boost album sales what are you talking about
I dont remember that at all. I remember most social media slurping him up after hearing Pyramids
Ayo sway wild as hell for this.
🤯GOTTA believe it was a lil tiny white woman up under his beanie making him mouth these words
It's funnyashell imagining him doing this 'wait, wait, only black?' s*** to any other artist who has any pro black lyrics
I dont remember that at all. I remember most social media slurping him up after hearing Pyramids
Nah Ngl I remember them saying he used it to boost his sales too but I followed a lot of ignorant mfs
I'll also just say this...why are you seeking respect from people in a genre that have shown they don't even respect who you are as a person because of your sexuality?
But who's they?
HIp hop has zero gatekeepers in 2021. DaBaby's fiasco proved that. Not a single hip hop personality or artist had enough power to stop the festivals from cancelling DaBaby for his comments.
There is no monolithic hip hop voice or gatekeeper in 2021. Charlamagne interviewed LNX but he's not a gatekeeper. Boosie dissed him but he's not a gatekeeper either.
I've seen progressive-minded hip hop reviewers and critics like BlackySpeakz defend Lil Nas X from controversies but he's just a Youtuber.
Hip Hop is rampant with disrespect towards everyone. I don't condone homophobia at all but I just feel it's vague to say he's "not respected" in a genre rampant with disrespect with zero gatekeepers.
It’s like people forgot that hella people kicked Frank to the side pre-Blonde because “we know who he’s singing about now”
i dont understand why you guys think a few people = majority lmao. Yall love narratives instead of truths get off twitter
There was a magazine in the 90s called One Nut where the identity of a closeted gay rapper (who they never said who) was looked at as a scandal. And the tone wasnt in no loving way at all. (General)
2pac openly gay bashed Dr. Dre off of rumors and Eazy E used his old pics wearing makeup (which is wild thinking back that just wearing makeup was seen as soft) for his early 80s group as a diss. (West)
ATCQ career was literally saved because the label said hell no to them having a song called “Georgie Porgie” where the hook is literally “listen up money, or should I say honey” and Phife’s verse that starts the song is “in the beginning it was adam and eve but some try to make it look like adam and steve” (east)
We dont even gotta talk about Khujo’s verse on Fly Away off Goodie Mob’s Still Standing album (south)
“Don’t understand their ways I aint down with gays” - Brand Nubian, Punks Jump Up to Get Beat Down (east)
Critics and the people alike were questioning Andre’s sexuality the most during his “wild late 90s” era, which turns out was just cause he liked to wear eccentric clothing. (South)
But yeah, “it wasnt widespread.” F*** outta here nigga
you named about 4 people in a genre with well over hundreds of people in the 90s. continue your virtue-signaling zoomer
You gotta earn respect in hip hop. He has a couple of hits but only 1 body of work to show for it.
But who's they?

Okay when even just break it down purely to being respected in hip-hop, what exactly has he done as a hip-hop artist worthy of respect? He ain't a good rapper. His most popular songs are pop songs...and a meme song. Is he asking for respect as the most successful out gay rapper? He's pretty much the first and only one...That's something you kinda pat yourself on the back for.
Actions have consequences it’s not just cause he gay . He just pretended to be a satanist , pregnant , acted like Nike was suing him and all these things yet y’all think it’s just cause he gay
u delusional bro

I agree and that's why I'm kinda confused by his comment.
Progressive minded rap fans generally respect his accomplishments. It's whatever, especially since Tyler and Brockhampton blew up prior with the LGBTQ acceptance wave. Also, people cared less about LNX being gay in 2019 when he was just focused on making fun music.
Hip Hop purists and old heads probably won't f*** with him off his image and not feeling his music
What's funny, though, is that the same thing used to apply to Young Thug even though Thugger is straight.

That I can get. I just look at it purely for the music. And when it comes to his rap music...I can't say I've heard anything deserving of respect because it's not good lol I'll give him respect for getting this big while being an out and gay Black artist who boldly puts that at the forefront of his music and videos in controversial ways.
