yes and no. his first 2 albums stood the test of time imo and i definitely wouldn't classify it as "fast food" as a whole, maybe a few songs here and there, but it had enough of a unique identity to set itself apart from his contemporaries and has a significant place in the "soundcloud era". even to this day yes he makes some fast food music but he's also done poland and lets start here. i can see why ppl dont fw his music, but to deny his impact isn't fair

wolf was the last tyler album where nearly the whole thing sounded like the neptunes. that was a decade ago lmao we all witnessed him meld that with other influences to come up with his own style and sound less like them, especially on his albums

and when tyler did the gangsta grillz, literally no one else was doing it at the time. he restored the feeling and jumpstarted the brand again. it’s not like he was following the pack when he did that lol we can’t act like paying homage or referencing the classics equates to falling in line or biting. you can push the genre forward via bringing something back, we praise all the OGs for it

and most importantly, those are not the biggest elements of tyler’s last projects at all. flower boy kicked the door down for queer rap and sonically shifted the approach for the next generation. with igor he brought a level of showmanship we hadn’t seen since andre + kanye and essentially made this generation’s love below (musically, energy wise, not success wise) while also recontextualizing how a lot of young fans view sampling, the marriage of r&b + rap and even rollouts.

this whole screenshot is comedic gold to me, from tierra saying i love how rap is so diverse and fun rn with yachty immediately saying after man this s*** sucks, to yachty acting like his s*** don’t stink acting, to acting like him and Tyler are the only niggas making innovative rap rn

I love psych rock and have been listening to it the majority of my life and I f***ed with yatchty’s album hard. I don’t think it was a ripoff or « baby first psych rock album » it had it’s own vibe. The best way to describe it is it was clearer and less fuzzy than other albums in that genre. It had a crispness to it. Just because he had a girl singing abstractly like that pink Floyd song, people assume it copied too much. Pink Floyd werent the first to do that either.

Tierra Whack’s debut project was special but she hasn’t done anything worthwhile since. And Yachty makes good music for dumb people
