They sampled the melody and did new drums. How are we still having conversations like this in 2024

i didn't wanna say that beat sounded like a dababy beat because it sucked but also i knew dababy would def do this flip justice lol

Calling it a flip is generous lol but yeah he did his thing, this and Shake Sum are really fun imo

It's been producing since the beginning of rap. Some of the best beats of the 80s and 90s are like 20 seconds of a sample looped with drums on it. That's always been producing. You knew that, I'm sure. The style of the beat can be dry and boring (it is in this case) the new drums can be stiff and unspired (it is in this case) but that doesn't make it some sacrilegious anti-producing new thing.

Older producers never had rap beats to sample from as they were crafting what the genre would be, but that Mannie Fresh song is almost 25 years old. A producer taking the opening riff from a mannie song and adding new drums is no different methodically than Q-Tip taking the opening riff of a song from the late 60s early 70s and adding drums when he was making the early tribe albums.

It's not a good flip its not a good song but to fake outrage and call it stealing (thread title, what i was replying to, literally says the song is stolen) every time something gets sampled is getting tiresome

It's like they're allergic to switching it up

  • If it’s a good beat it’s a good beat, no reason to hate on how it was made
