crazy how things change with time, it wasn't even long ago when ob4cl was considered the definitive wu solo album

the praise and popularity is well deserved tho. imo, i prefer it to purple tape by just a little. i enjoy GZA more as an MC (at least on this in his prime), and i feel like the best production on LS tops the best production that was on OB4CL.

its all preference and subjective, but the beats on 4th chamber and shadowboxin are just god tier. those songs back to back are tough to top.

GZA was able to shine a little more than raekwon was on his solo as well. ghost was on almost every track on OB4CL, not to mention the other wu guests and others. GZA has like 4-5 solo songs out of the 13 tracks. you really get to see his A++++ rapping ability in his prime form.

Deck had many of my favorite verses on 36 Chambers. A RZA-fronted solo debut for Deck in 1995 would have been classic.

It was supppsed to be a thing but the beats RZA had for his album got lost in a flood

But tbh GZA has a good discog so maybe he's just a better artist.

sour soul is a very underrated project tbh

Liquid Swords didn’t have the same level of style as Only Built

Both had amazing production and verses but Only Built just had more character imo. Even the lingo on there added a different feeling. Rae and Ghost delivery was so raw

Ice Cream, Ice Water, Glaciers, Crimonology production is next level. Plus the tracks that aren’t as high energy are amazing. Rainy Dayz, Verbal Intercourse, Scarfaces, and Heaven & Hell

I don’t think Liquid Swords matching that energy. Only Built is more of an entertaining listen imo. It’s more of a roller coaster. Liquid Swords kinda stays at the same pace throughout the album with a few tracks that are a bit more cold/menacing than others

36 Seasons and Twelve Reasons to Die II are underrated as well
