sometimes it's best to listen to an album when it's the right time for it to hit. post any albums you came into late and it hits for you later on.
tl;dr: op listens to 3.15.20 for the 1st time in full and loves it.
YOU SMELL LIKE A PEACH PAPAYA
...My nigga I was LATE on this.
Obviously, due to a lot of s*** going on that year and all the hubub and negative publicity around the album. I admittedly never listened to 3.15.20
Yesterday was the 10 year anniversary of BTI (good album, but it never sat with me for some reason when it dropped. Flight of the Navigator one of the greatest songs of the decade tho) and out of curiosity I thought "oh lemme check this mysterious album out"
NIGGA.
First off, criticism out the way: some of these outros go on for like a minute or 2 too long and in some cases ruin the songs entirely. Jarring switches that don't even have that much continuity with the actual song (unlike 2020 pt. 1, god tier at outros)
that out the way: NIGGA.
I f***s with Time (which brought me to a quote Dijon said in an interview about wanting to see more pop artists like Ariana on more wonky/off kilter type of production) and Algorythm (made a nigga wanna jig) but bro I NEED TO SLOW DANCE WITH A FINE EBONY SHAWTY TO VIBRATE NOW
Thank You's outro (one of the few good ones) had a nigga feel like I was FLOATING bro. While we at it bro really a dumbass because THAT right there would've been an actual hit yo
I was both dying and amazed at a country song about moving yay that s*** was a bop.
Why Go To The Party? for obvious reasons had a nigga on the verge of tears. RIP Donald Glover Sr.
Songs like The Violence and and Beautiful got me like
And Under the Sun was just a dope way to end a song.
So now it's obvious that either Donald Glover was a complete dumbass or was REALLY REALLY mad at his label because if this was released in any other original context, this woulda been looked at as a masterpiece.
That album gets so much unnecessary hate on here for no other reason than it was "promoted horribly".
Whatever tf that means.
Amazing
Criticism for this album was always dumb. Just shows people care about the other s*** more than the actual music
Why go to the party was the song that stuck out to me as the standout. The violence was also pretty cool.
3.15.20 is unfortunately an incredible album but childish gambino's mysterious ass ruined any potential it had to pop off

I mean it's one thing to have it be just "oh it dropped out of nowhere mysteriously" like beyonce s/t that's one thing. Mr. Morale dropped and besides a couple music videos, Kendrick hasn't really spoken or did interviews on the album. That's not my personal problem with it.
But bro, there was no song titles to this album at all. Which even at its most basic consumption as a consumer makes it hard to pinpoint or decide what songs you like or don't like on the album. And you can tell it was definitely supposed to be a part of something "bigger" but idk, something about it feels just a bit unfinished. Maybe not the music itself but something just feels off and that part understandably rubbed a lot of fans the wrong way.

It does have titles. They just aren’t conventional titles. I agree it makes the album less accessible but I don’t think it changes the actual quality of the songs.
This year it what Meat Loaf. I remember being at a Walmart as a kid thinking his album was a metal album or something. It looked like Megadeth. So I scanned it and listened and was like "wtf"
But this year I watched Rocky Horror Picture Show and he went crazy. Album has bops
I revisited animals by pink Floyd for the first time in maybe 7ish years
Still as incredible as the first time I heard it over 2 decades ago
The new swans album I registered to finally, forgot how good it is. Ended up moving it forward in my end of the year list
I've listened when first came out and didn't liked it. Gave another chance these days and probably bumped it like 3 times already
My top 3
Sweet Serenade
Let me Love you
Hold On
