Triplesssexactly why I find it hard to call them mixtapes. I don't care what wikipedia says, those projects were treated like albums. He was given a budget, and a budget for shooting videos. He released lead singles. Treated just like a studio album

kendrick also had 3 mixtapes prehand that got him noticed with no big label backing.

Not really. Jay Z had to grind out his early 20s as Jaz O's glorified weed carrier pretty much and didn't get his opportunity to make his impact til he was like 26-27. Eminem didn't blow up until 1999 and that was when he was 4 years in the game already.
Travis was really only putting out music for a single year before he got picked up by a label and they put together a mixtape consisting of rappers and producers such as: Kanye West, Mike Dean, ASAP Ferg, TI, 2 Chainz, Bon Iver, Toro y Moi, James Fauntleroy, Wale, Meek Mill, and Lex Luger...all of this for a debut mixtape
That alone is nowhere comparable to how Kanye, Jay Z, Eminem, and even Drake came up since it took him 4 years before he even got his first major look.
