also, the stock market is really just a bunch of people betting, and humans are prone to error and listening to their emotions. that causes bubbles (and people speculated that we'd been in a super long bubble), panic selling, etc. the stock market can and has shot up one day and tanked the very next super drastically, as we saw during the beginning-ish stages of corona
