There also are multiple Communist and left-wing parties and pretty much yearly there are anticapitalist riots in Athens that get pretty violent, so there's that too

I see what you're saying, and I definitely agree that their systems were impressive for the time, but it's hard to say that a society where slavery was legal is more progressive than any modern democracy.
