In his present day society, as I said in that thread, I don't have as much sympathy for abuses of power. This officer still presides in a society where racism is acceptable, police aren't held accountable, abuse their power, and get away with indiscriminately killing black people in particular.

Those are all decisions made by the people who have organized society, and there's no reason that it would contradict my idea that we can organize society in such a way where crimes like this are no longer a thing.
