I love the dedication tho @op
Great read of a thread. Very interested into looking in to this
Nah this is trash for no reason
I skimmed though it and wth is that solo at 1:02:27??? 💀
Some parts sounds like bootleg SpongeBob music
The drum patterns are scust and idk what those vocals are supposed to mean
Maybe one day I'll listen to it in full don't have the patience just right now though

Also many famous musicians love it
Pretty David Byrne (Talking Heads) said it was on his fav records oat
Idc it's windy outside as well irl and I'm sticking to that story.
Is it 6 separate parts or 6 whole projects?
Is it 6 separate parts or 6 whole projects?
It's one project in 6 stages
Those stages apperently represent stages of dementia
Take it like a play with different acts
Imagine wasting your time with this pseud bullshit when theres clearly music you will enjoy much more out there
imagine judging someone elses music choice while u have a death grips avy as if people aren't allowed to make music alternative to what people are used to
Amazing music in the first bit never got past the second album in the series. Just too surreal. Honestly the most creative modern project i can think of
Stage 3 where it really hits its stride with the subject matter imo
Okay it's not raining outside anymore and I'm questioning if I made that up
Either the weather is acting up or I'm losing it
Didn't even notice when the raining stopped...
fam lost it and couldn't tell what the weather was doing or if it was all in the mind

Clearly its a piece of art more concerned with extrinsic concepts rather than the music itself. You can do whatever you want, i really dont give a s***, but i cant relate to wanting to listen to 6 hours of dementia simulation at all. Seems terribly boring and unnecessarily negative
And i really just do not have the time for it but if you do i envy you
just listened to this after seeing this post earlier and this honestly might be one of the saddest albums i’ve ever heard the lines about her buying a backpack for her daughter was so precious
That captain beef heart record broke me by second listen
Can’t understand why it’s so well received
keep listening bro, absolutely masterful composition and playing. lyrics/poetry too
but i really dont like the angle that people say it "sounds bad on purpose". it sounds great to me its just very different (mostly rhythmically) from what most people are used to. and its the exact opposite of just random noise or poor playing, everything is very complex and extremely calculated. his vocal style might be offputting for some as well but hes one of the better vocalists in rock history imo. does a disservice to avant garde/more "challenging" music and too reductive to just explain it away as it sounds bad on purpose and thats a good thing
it helps if you have more of a reference point of similar music/music it draws influence from. especially free jazz on songs like Hair Pie just sounds like noise to some people until you really know how to listen to it. or basic raw blues songs like China Pig
i think it really speaks to its greatness in the fact that its been so influential but simultaneously one of the most unique albums ever. (ex: it influenced basically the entire strain of "experimental" rock music encompassing post punk, math rock, progressive rock, etc.)
the way i recommend people get into it is by focusing on each instrument at a time. Start with the drums first, listen to the whole album mostly focusing on the drums and you will pick up on the super interesting rhythms and it actually grooves. then listen once focusing on one guitar, then the other guitar, then how they interplay. eventually you will hear how it all comes together. maybe start with another one of his more accessible albums like Safe as Milk or Shiny Beast so you can get a feel for his style
its endlessly listenable to me, i can always find something new in the playing. but i do have to be in the right mood for it, i dont really listen to it playing in the background as much
idk why i wrote all that but it makes me want to listen to the album again lol
My mom is showing early signs of dementia, I just hope she doesn't end up forgetting who I am
