Figured we could have a thread discussing the marketing that goes into live shows.
For those who perform live, what have you done to promote shows that proved successful, and what has proven to be a waste of time?
Do you have any ideas for promotion that you haven’t tried but figure would work?
Ideas I’ve tried:
1. Flyers. Tried and true classic. What impact it officially has, I’m not sure. But it creates awareness at least. Have a QR code on the flyer that lets people listen to your music, and have a QR code that brings them to your Facebook event page. Which brings me to…
2. Facebook event pages. While Facebook sucks and is mostly dead, event pages work. Invite everybody you know that may wanna go. Find ways to get people to share (whether by asking, or giveaways). Make posts in the event page so people respond and keep the page actively popping up on feeds.
3. Festival. I use festival loosely. Some of the biggest shows I’ve thrown were shows with me and all of our artist friends. Ended up with like 15 artists playing throughout the night. Had everybody on the lineup sharing the posts and bringing their friends. We made a post about allowing more people on the lineup, and to comment local artists that people wanted to see. Ended up getting over a hundred shares and a few hundred comments on the post. Very good exposure
Hoping this helps some people, and looking forward to getting some other ideas
