Never liked him when I was younger. Got older and found out what he did and made sense like I peep the energy without having to be face to face. Man's is a snake and was willing to f*** up other careers so he could be the "king of New York"

Talented artists and people but some of the people in his circle he understandably had to cut off(Beanie Sigel, Peedi Crakk, Dame Dash). They were either affecting the business by constantly getting into legal trouble, had no work ethic, or had eye browsing corporate/business decisions(Ex. Dash appointing Cam'Ron as VP of Roc-A-Fella). S*** was questionable on their end but I do believe Jay def did some things others out of jealousy and dislike which was crazy.

Doesn’t make sense imo or negate that it can apply to more than one

When he says “if I can get up here then you definitely can” it feels like he’s talking to someone younger than himself not whodini but idk

Also that Twitter handle is from a jay song so I’m thinking it’s a Roc nation sleeper agent trying to kill the idea before it gets going

What is the actual root of their tension?

I hear it was over Jay becoming president of Def Jam and failing to push his album. If that’s true, it wouldn’t surprise me. Plenty of people from the likes of DMX and Ghostface expressed their frustrations at Jay for somewhat sabotaging their releases. And then you factor in the eventual release of Kingdom Come, which reportedly left the company in a whole as it failed to meet sales projections and its hefty marketing budget.

I also heard LL say it may be over a rap battle back in the day where Jay felt he didn’t acknowledge him.

    Idk.

Kingdom Come is Jay Z highest first week sales of his career and was this biggest first week sales of that year tho

Nah I actually f*** with LL heavy for that. Jay Z should've been one of the biggest rappers to be apart of all the 50th anniversary of hip-hop celebrations and shows. There were a ton throughout NYC all during the summer and Jay Z ain't pop out at a single one. If he did it was just for some photo-ops and showing face. Never to perform or anything.

But again, he's another one of these rap niggas who got time to perform at a f***in runway fashion show out in Europe for a bunch of cacs who don't know s*** about the culture.

My HOPE is that Jay Z was behind the scenes funding the shows or the Rock the Bells F.O.R.C.E tour that LL and Questlove put together. If he did I'll look the other way.

Yeah, you’re right. But the album itself didn’t achieve longevity or critical success.

Show me what you've got. was the first single and understandably reached #8 on the Hot 100, being that it was his comeback. The song itself isn’t revered by fans, and I’ve never seen Jay perform that song live.

The second single, "Lost One”, performed worse than the first single and peaked at #58. Once again, a record that Jay rarely plays live and is only remembered for his subliminals at dame.

The third single was Hollywood, which many claim to be Jay’s worst song in his entire discography and didn’t chart at all. It is definitely something that has been swept under the rug.

I personally think Kingdom Come as an album is good and represents his corporate transition emphatically. It’s just that, from an objective point of view, the culture doesn’t like the album, and I even think he’s said it himself.

Even though LL’s comments may not be directed at Jay, I can understand where plenty of peoples frustrations with him stem from.

I was surfing through YouTube the other day and I came across a BET interview with Ja Rule from what I believed is 03 and he alluded to the manipulative behaviour of Jay.

True I knew it was considered a disappointment by fans and critics I just didn’t know it was considered a flop but I guess because of the singles I could see it

I think I’ve only heard it in full once

I love Hov and I agree with you to an extent but y’all gotta stop acting like he was just performing in Paris for no reason and not because of Pharrell taking over LV. But yeah if I’m being honest I feel like they should’ve been more done for hip hop’s 50th throughout the year. Not just in the last month. As far as festival and performances wise
