Obviously it had huge shoes to fill, especially after GOW 2 and 3.
2 had probably the better overall campaign but 3 for sure has the better bosses and spectacle/graphics obviously. Man I'd love to see 2 on current gen hardware. And after 3 came out, series fatigue was beginning to set in which is why the 2016 the game changed his the formula.
But if you go back now, Ascension had some very cool moments as well. It feels the most like an adventure game in the Greek series imo, with its puzzles and platforming sections. I love the Python and Statue of Apollo levels and the scale on display. And the bosses, while not better than 3, were kinda dope too, like the intro, finale, or the Siamese twin thing. I understand it changed some fundamental things about the controls and stuff too which pissed off some folks. It also just felt pointless to a degree, like where the hell do you go from beating the dog s*** outta a hundred story titan, destroying Hercules, and annihilating Zeus. So I get it in that regards to.
But game had some dope parts about it too, all I'm saying.
definitely gow fatigue setting in, one of the best looking ps3 games
Probably the best looking ps3 game tbh looking back. God of War 3, Uncharted 2,3 and MGS4 were kinda the pinnacle I think. But I think Ascension was a bit better.

Played not much but I remember enjoying it, if they are bold they could integrate some plot points on the upcoming trilogy remake
What didn't help Ascension is that it came out the same year that the PS4 dropped despite the several months difference. I do remember enjoying it when I played, might have to boot up my PS3 to run it back.
The only god of war with multiplayer
I remember being in the beta way back but it was lowkey fun
Never played the actual game

Last of Us is usually the benchmark I set for late PS3 visuals. I think ascension looks notably better, especially the textures

Last of Us of course I forgot to mention that. I remember thinking how is ND going to make that look better than Uncharted and sure enough.

From sudden bends to tricky gaps, slope keeps players alert throughout the run. The challenge lies in adapting quickly without losing control.
