After California, the rest of this washed over me until Mood Ring and then the closer was still like that.
A lot of this is too samey

LMAO at this old reddit layout for the Lorde subreddit
Yeah it's not for me </3
But I don't feel passionate enough to go on about it
damn

I actually think the Side A of this wasn't bad at all just not CRAZY
Side B is where it really tapers off for me
California is my favorite on here I think.
Sounded way better than the Leak. Still feels a little thin though

jack antonoff production being generic and boring, no way 😱🤯
The bonus track Hold No Grudge kinda cool
Maybe because it actually has somewhat interesting drum production.
"'Mood Ring' was inspired by 60s Flower Child culture, and the cultural parallels between then and now - wellness, spirituality, crystals, tarot cards, horoscopes, and macro-biotic vegan diets."
Mmmm? No direct quote. But it would be weird to compare an anticapitalist movement with the most capitalist movement possible.
Looks like Melodrama is her only good album as of now.
You not into her debut like that?
You not into her debut like that?
Not really tbh, only really like Team, Ribs & Tennis Court.
Never been a huge fan of her, although her album prior had some appealing qualities about it so it got me intrigued to see what she does next. This isn't doing it for me but I'll sit with it for a while, just sounds a bit too hollow.

both are fugazis created by the children of rich white people
if you go beyond the surface level a lot of these lyrics are pretty funny, i dont know why people don't respect lorde enough to read these songs as tongue in cheek and an ironic send up of flower power and rich white girl bullshit. i feel she's earned that consideration from her earlier work and is clearly not 100% serious with a lot of this basic stuff, like why are people taking a song called "mood ring" at face value
feeling like lyrically this album is a filter, if you're not into the production i get it and understand if you wanted lorde to continue her future bass pop sound but i think it's cool she's switched it up especially with so many of the hottest young artists mimicking that sound to massive chart success in the last few years. i have a nostalgic affection for s club, natasha bedingfield, 2000s pop. it was a cool choice to go for an updated version of that for the production of this album. if you want the old sound listen to the old albums
"As she mocks Los Angeles, thinks back on awards shows, and confesses stage fright, Lorde fits all too easily into a tiresome trend: pop stars making a living off of their burnout."
That's from a positive review. That's very true; I hope she were more self-conscious about this aspect of the album, its cringy at times.
i almost get what they're saying but then again not really? you mind sharing why you personally echo their sentiment?
i haven't listened yet but i've seen lyrics and interviews about the topics mentioned.
