ā€œAfter meeting with the Lakers on June 15, Redick spoke on the phone with Anthony Davis on Monday, a critical relationship in the years to come.

The decision to choose Redick came as the Lakers, led by Pelinka, prioritized Davisā€™ voice in the process and ensured that he understood the shared vision.ā€

ā€œThe 39-year-old Redick checks many of the boxes on the Lakersā€™ extensive checklist for their next coach. Heā€™s drawn internal comparisons to a young Pat Riley as a coaching prospect who jumped from playing to the broadcast booth to the coaching chair. Los Angeles is confident he can be their version of Erik Spoelstra or Steve Kerr ā€“ a culture-setter who can grow with the franchise for over a decade.ā€

It's all on Rob to put together a roster that fits the philosophies JJ wants to run on both sides of the court.

ā€œRedick explained his decision-making process when it comes to strategy, how the a***ysis and empirical evidence would always guide his choices rather than preconceived notions or outdated beliefs.

Redick described a system molded around this roster, focusing on elevating Anthony Davisā€™ involvement, particularly late in games, and alleviating the constant ballhandling duties on James by utilizing him more off the ball.ā€

According to The Athletic, several people inside the Lakers and externally wondered about the "true overall genuineness of the pursuit and whether the franchise had been used by Hurley to get more money to stay at Connecticut."

Sources say Jeanie Buss was "highly motivated" for the Lakers to hire Hurley and was "genuinely disappointed" he didn't accept their offer.

The Lakers eventually circled back to J.J. Redick, who was hired as head coach on Thursday.

I love the JJ hire. You canā€™t keep recycling head coaches in the NBA. You either hire a big name or you take a shot on potential.

This is risky, but Lakers are at a position where risk is fine.

Healthy Lonzo, Reaves, Bron, Vando, Davis

Itā€™s probably a long shot to bank on a healthy Lonzo though

Tbh, with Cassell and Dudley I'd doubt he'd fail
