I transferred into UVA in the fall of 2022. So I’ve had one semester to get a feel of the computer science department and it has been a disaster.

    1. My cousin and I were assignment to the same project together and he turned his phone off, refused to meet with me, and played a major role in us getting a zero for the project. This caused my grade to drop to a 61. I emailed my professor but she did not respond.

    2. UVA’s computer science department does not have enough staff to accommodate students, which means students have to seek out third party tutors. Sadly, another student and I consulted with the same tutor which caused both of us to get flagged for similarity. I have messages from the tutor confirming that she worked with another student, however, UVA believes that another student and I collaborated on the same assignment. I was then given a zero for this assignment as well.

My only options are retaking the cs class, transferring out of UVA, or finding a different major which will be difficult. I don’t know what to do and I kinda want to just give up. I exceeded in all of my other classes but computer science seems to be the most unprofessional and unforgiving department. I have to make a decision by Friday or else I’ll be dropped from all of my current classes for the Spring semester. What should I do? I have emailed multiple deans and no one will help me.

find out who you need to talk to in order to sort this out, whether it be an academic advisor or a dean and go to their office in person

if people aren't responding to your emails you need to force it

OP I had a 0.2 GPA my first year in college, you can come back from this

  • You should beat your cousins ass

speak with an academic advisor ASAP.
if a professor is not responding and you have documentation, you should get that sorted out immediately and speak with someone in person. if "multiple deans" are ignoring you then there is a serious problem with the school's admin

I would Transfer to a community college instead where you’ll save money and get the same education, and a fresh start until you’re ready for Uni again.

I heard NOVA CC is a pretty good community college but idk how far away that is from you though.

Don’t let a couple bumps in the road keep you from getting to your goal. Unless you just not interested in the career you’re going for

  • Jan 18, 2023

    DO NOT switch majors
CS is f***ing insane in how much they pay people
and if u put a little extra work to get a high GPA i promise u will be making $150k+ working from home in the bay area
one regret i made was not taking CS, im going back for a masters in it
