no thread for this yet wow... Important record. First new album in 4 years, following her amazing and unique debut. Singles were on repeat already but I'm blown away what a wild listen this is

mabe fratti, hiatus kaiyote, ski mask, poison anna, evidence, caroline shaw, sault.... plus john glacier leaked and MIKE dropped the same week. Insane week for releases
Imagine the amazing music slauson could make if he tried to make something more fun and energetic

Oh s*** L’rain linked wit slauson?!?
They've been linked up for a while I think, you're probably bound to meet if you're both Black experimentalists in Brooklyn lol. They're also cool with Dreamcrusher. Actually first learned of her because of a show she did together with Slauson a couple years ago
I would not call this neo-soul at all. Decent album tho
what would you call it? Soul does seem to me to be the most dominant influence, but also def more Neo than classic soul.
A lot of this defies genre labelling though for sure
is this somewhat similar to When I Get Home ?
not quite tbh, a bit more experimental and airy, more intimate. But similar enough that there's a good chance you'd like this if you like WIGH
