it’s solid for sure but just from 2017 I thought br2049, brawl in cell block 99, phantom thread, Dunkirk, Florida project, good time, lost city of z, and shape of water were better movies.

It’s very well made but in all his movies guadagnino can’t help himself from crawling up his own ass and I had a hard time sympathizing with a rich, smart, talented, multilingual kid vacationing in the countryside for the summer. by the end still wasn’t pulling at my heart strings cause that kid doesn’t have anything else to worry about it in life

I connected more with margot robbie in i, tonya because there was at least class and social struggles to her character. the ppl in call me by your name are basically all yuppies

I mean we can for sure have the talk whether the perspective of a rich kid is needed in cinema atm, and about how cinema fetishizes glamour as the cream of the crop of being "visually pleasing"...

but it's not a good argument imo that the fact Elio doesn't have to worry about anything existentially makes the narrative weaker. In a way I think this actually makes the central conflict of a same-sex falling in love and coming out to each other much "purer" because you know that, other than with almost any other relationship, money doesn't really play a role here for example. Instead of livelihood first, the existential conflict becomes the love affair.

BBC Three has acquired the UK rights for the show.

“With We Are Who We Are we are attempting to portray the here and now of two families, few generations, many exciting people,” said Guadagnino. “To see the world from their perspective it is what I am delighted to share with UK audiences. To do so thanks to the prestigious and remarkable BBC is an accomplishment and a soothing encouragement.”
