I get the idea that it’s drill music, not drill music… but how do the songs fit into the theme

I’ve caught three major themes so far

The struggle in hip hop. Streets vs the music

The struggle of adapting to new technology. With the rise of AI, what will it mean to be human

The struggle of consumption vs limited resources. Climate change is mentioned throughout.

And of course the theme of fighting with his faith

All these are the duality of our times and lupes inner struggle. Even the title is a contradiction. There would be no such thing as drill music in heaven, because it’s a product of poverty and oppression

Completely disagree on the production, F&L2 had some bland generic beats and while the mixing was “good” it lacked character

I never said F&L 2 had better production though.....
    Both got bland production.

Both a 7 to me but one gives me more songs that I like than the other and has better mixing.

Bland lofi beats vs bland 2012 commercial beats.

    Ms. Mural

This is tied with the original Mural for me. Love and impressed with both for different reasons

U an earl fan like me. The mixing is an aesthetic choice and he pulled it off

Also the production is superior on here as opposed to tgara. The live instrumentation doesn’t age. Compared to tgara prod which didn’t age well on some tracks

Yeah Earl music has character and texture. You can tell its intentional, it's used as artist/creative effect, but the bad mixing really only applies to SRS and Feet of Clay.

This on the other hand has this boomy room reverb thrown on half the songs and the vocals sit on top of the beat instead of "inside" the beat. The lows and mid low frequencies along with the style and amount of reverb muddy up the mix. And the high frequencies lacks sheen.

    This album is very good

Number 2 this year behind Morale

I’m with you on the second half of the paragraphs, I did think the mixing wasn’t bad and at least the beats have more texture….but coming from someone like Craig the mixing could’ve been much better

S*** dawg it sounds better than Wave to me. I think this vocals on top approach has always been Lupe’s style anyway

I probably care about this more than most cause I mix and make beats( for myself, not anyone notable)so I can go into more detail about what goes into making songs

Yeah this has a more consistent sound to it mixing wise compared to Waves.

Finally got around to listening to the album, It's a dope project. Although in my opinion, it's not on the same caliber of level as Drogas Wave was (that project was a masterpiece), this is still a great album from a great artist.

Still gotta listen to this some more to pick up on a lot of the lyrics that more than likely went over my head.

Craig knows way more about mixing than everyone on here combined, so I'm sure it was an intentional choice and not just "bad". Now that's its out, I hope he can speak more on the mixing choices. Honestly the only song it really bothered me on was autoboto. The rest sounded fine

Yeah but that doesn't mean he's infallible.

When I listen to artist I love I need to feel like the mixing is wayyy better than what I could do, I need to feel like the production is way better than what I could do. Rapping and writing wise I'll NEVER be anywhere close to Lu but the other two aspecting mixing and production I don't feel that way.

I didn't get want I wanted out of it, what I want out of a project as a person that makes music is different from what a person who doesn't make music wants out of a project. I'm approach it with a different perspective, needs and curiosity.

I want to look up to the ones I grew up listening to, not feel that the gap is getting smaller.

I'm not a mixing snob either, Charles Hamilton has HORRIBLE mixing and I love his old music. I just don't like LUPE with this style of mixing. Majority of his career has been a certain style of commercial mixing, its not easy for me to transition to this type from him.

Either way chalk it up to personal taste I guess.

    1. You don't know that seeing as none of my stuff is even on the web.
    2. I thought this was a music forum where we discussion our opinions but niggas get sensitive over their favorite artist and take s*** personally as if i made a personal attack on them. Sad cause I expected a more mature and intelligent response from my fellow lupe stans.

I articulated my stance when i couldve just said "this mid" like a typical music section poster. You don't have to agree with it but respect me and my opinion.

You got upset, attacked me, and made assumptions about me and my music that you have no basis or point of reference to form such an opinion.

Nowhere in there did I say I had a "refined ear." Someone being more knowledgeable in a subject than someone isn't pretentious.

I've been studying, practicing, and actually making music for the past 11 years so I would hope that I am more knowledgeable in the subject than the average listener/ktt poster.

On top of that, you missed the whole point of what I was saying and where I was coming from in that post cause your sensitive stan feelings couldn't handle criticism of a aspect of a album.

Don't even bother responding cause I'm not finna continue to waste my time by continuing to response to you.

As a matter of fact, you getting blocked.

I've never been impressed by mixing on Lupe album. It's always just been serviceable.

I guess T&Y might be the one exception. It sounds cleaner to me.

But also I don't know s*** about the process of mixing or production.

For me, I only look for lyrics in a Lupe album/song, except in very extreme cases like Peace of Paper which has a garbage flow and beat and mixing.
