it's a movie nigga. what are you? cinemasins
knew this lame ass comment was coming eventually
Like I said before that s*** comes across as very bad/lazy writing with only the purpose of giving exposition to the protagonist so he knows “hey the cops are on to you”
There’s 1000 more clever ways to deliver that information.
So whoever thinks “nIGGa iTs A moViE” cool, don’t sit on this site critiquing any movie then.

nah I think cinemasins and honest trailers have really made the younger generation of movie fans hyperfixate on the most poinless things such as exposition dialogue.
Yes, we understand it's not realistic for characters to just spout exposition without taking a single breath, but it doesn't make necessarily make it lazy writing. For example, the dialogue in every film made by The Wachowski's work is driven exposition and I'd argue that their films are better written than every Marvel film or most mainstream blockbusters.
does exposition and characters randomly knowing things really take you out of a movie? lol I'd hate for you to go back to older films and realize that allot of them relied heavily on exposition dialogue.

Id throw the nostalgia critic in that convo of ruining film criticism for an entire generation too.

It is lazy writing. “Hey I’m gonna insert this character here selling merch who shouldn’t have any intel from the feds just for the purpose of telling the main character what is going on”
It’s lazy because that’s a stupid scenario, yes “it’s a movie” but since when we can’t critique a writer for making a lazy choice?
Obviously the main character needs to know “Hey these cops have you trapped and are on to you” but there 1000 better ways to deliver that info. I’d rather see the main character put clues together that something fishy is going on, that informs us that maybe this guy is smart, rather than “hey I’m some random f*** who shouldn’t know this info and now I’m gonna share it with another person who shouldn’t know too”
Imagine in Get Out if some random neighbor just walked up to the main character like “Hey, I know you don’t know me but every black guy who comes to this house never makes it out alive, I think the family is doing some type of weird experiment on yall. Well, ok, have a nice day”
ngl I'm not reading all of that and Peele isn't the best screenwriter to make your point with. He relies very much on visual storytelling and symbolism but it's not like he's clever with it.
The way Shyamalan writes and tells his stories is clearly inspired by Hitchcock. Sometimes exposition is literally the only a writer knows how to tell a story or make a point, it doesn't necessarily make it lazy. You view as it lazy because youtube critics conditioned you into thinking exposition dialogue breaks away from making the film being grounded in reality.
allot of DePalma's films don't make sense when you're looking at it through that lense but I can tell you his films are better written than any Peel movie and most of the bullshit getting distributed by A24.
I think this convo is apples to oranges. Some movies expositions works some movies it doesn't. Like Palme said it's how the exposition is executed. Im indifferent to exposition personally. Same thing with Narration.
I know a lot of film fans hate narration but I think it could be a great tool if used correctly. I know it's a basic example but I think Fight Club is a great example.
They use Edward Norton's narration throughout the movie rather than just the begining and end and it informs his character's thoughts rather than the cliche "You're probably wondering how I got in this situation' troupe that most movies usually do.
I like M. Nights dialogue for this current run of small to mid budget thrillers he's been releasing. It helps make them feel like a genre film from the 50s
Seems like the embargo was lifted. I’ve only seen 2 reviews and not trying to seek out more but they were positive
Nick Newman is one of the only respectable critics left in this s*** industry and he just called this his best engineered film since The Village
hype restored
