Ironically this kind of treatment is exactly what pop stars need to make good music. They usually come from privileged backgrounds and have lived very sheltered, boring lives, which makes for terrible music. Widespread public and critical derision gives them something to struggle against and they can turn that suffering into art. It's no coincidence that since critics have gone soft on pop music, the genre has gone to s***.
