YES YOU GET IT TURKISH KING
In for the new wave of voice note threads
Correct though, SOS out now more pop than traditional r&b to be fair but the r&b songs blow everything DVSN did in 2022 out of the water (this coming from a disappointed DVSN fan)
You kinda right but summer and sza are on a different level than jhene, Ari, kehlani, etc
plz make youtube videos brother
This got me missing @Wonderful
I'd record my s*** but I'm shy I'll keep it brief
I agree SZA and Summer Walker are killing it rn
But that's 2 artists! And in 90's 2000's there were so many R&B artists out there killing it
Even if you only look at the female R&B artists there were way more in the mainstream and even ppl who wanted to make a mainstream song would either make it R&B influenced or put an R&B hook on it
Facts are today rap took over as the leading genre and you have a lot of R&B artists who are doing some rap s*** or embracing some rapper like persona like Brent Faiyaz
That is the reason why people say mainstream R&B is dead
Plus SZA hasn't dropped in 5 years and she didn't single handedly save R&B
The industry is so desperate, the "biggest" R&B artist for the last few years was H.E.R., who is OK but you have to admit it's some mysterious music
And I don't have any problem with R&B being mysterious and all in for R&B singers trying to sing and bring that soul back but the peak is over, at least until we see an actual comeback
If it was plenty R&B girls killing it you'd have more of a point but if it's just 2 and the others in the sidelines then I just don't see it
I think people say that because they miss the way R&B singers used to REALLY SING TO YOU back in the day, not because of sexism. I remember a few months ago, people were talking about how the " big note" disappeared in mainstream R&B because none of the new acts can really hold a note. People want that classic 2000's r&b feel.
so yeah
