Wow need to cop
Old mix I was listening to
This is gonna be a long ass post, but I have one of the most core memories of my young adulthood, actually of my whole life basically, set to this mix & I think I religiously come back to this mix almost every summer since it came out, listen to it and reminisce about those days.
It was the summer of 2015, to preface - I live in the capital of Croatia, Zagreb, and every summer I go to the Croatian Adriatic coast for a few weeks with my friends, partying, drinking, chasing girls, standard young stuff for the average Croatian. Almost everyone goes to the coast during summer, especially if you're young. That summer was no different, I was only 22 years old, went to one of the islands on the Adriatic with my best friends. All of us single college guys, looking for a summer romance and partying the nights away after spending the day at the beach...
A couple of nights into the vacation, at a local bar, I met a beautiful alt girl, I first thought she had 0 interest in me and was interested in one of my friends. We actually end up majorly hitting it off, staying up all night, going to a secluded beach after the bar, making out, talking about our plans for our lives, watching the lights on the other side of the coast...
I ended up spending the next 4 or 5 nights going out with my friends and her friend group mixed together, always finishing the night up with the two of us at her apartment, having some of the best s***of my life.
Like 8 days into the vacation, I get a call from my mom that my dad has basically overnight developed some serious health issues and asks if I could come home early (it would eventually turn out he has a type of cancer called Multiple Myeloma and would leave us forever 3 years later in 2018).
I came to the coast with 3 of my friends with one of the friends driving his car, they're all staying for the full duration of the vacation, so like 8 more days, which means I have to take a bus home, back to the continental part of Croatia, which is like an 8 hour bus drive. The bus also stops every few hours or so to let people off at some of these little scenic towns and cities scattered around the Croatian coast and the mountainous region between the Adriatic coast and the continental Croatia.
At the same time as I'm about to take the bus drive home, I end up getting a message from my then ex girlfriend, asking if we can meet up once I get back to Zagreb. It would turn out she wants us to give it another go, we eventually do - we're still married to this day and have a beautiful daughter together.
Anyway, as a big Drake, Weeknd, PND, Majid Jordan fan back then, for like 80% of the bus drive home I think I had just this mix playing in my earphones.
Imagine a bus drive through the Adriatic coast, the mountains and the continental part of Croatia, in late July, late afternoon all the way through to the early morning hours. You're 22 years old, just had the greatest summer romance you'll ever have, your ex that you still have feelings for also contacted you saying she wants to see you, all the while you're driving home cause of a health scare for your dad. Your emotions are all over the place - you're hopeful for the future cause you're a young college kid, your head is spinning cause of summer love, you're also somewhat scared for the future cause of your family. You're driving in a half empty bus, sun is setting for most of the trip, you have this mix in your earphones...
I will never forget that summer and this mix, never.
Sorry for the long post everyone lmao, I just had to share this somewhere, cause I always felt like that was the closest I'll ever get to living in a Richard Linklater movie heh.
Every project they put out is sonically wonderful. Only artists I’ve ever seen more than once for a reason
