i think it's insanely corny but i also kind of get it from a celebrity perspective. like if you feel intensely depressed you basically have to be performative because there's no other outlet for it besides attention-seeking; you can put it into your music/art where it'll be commercialized, and if you don't make it performative then it's going to actually affect your career. You also have very few people viewing you from a personal/intimate lens beyond maybe at best immediate family if you're luckily. So like it doesn't leave many venues besides attention-seeking in order to get external validation about how you're feeling, which is ultimately what everyone is looking for one way or another.
