What are your thoughts on Solskjaer? I’m torn often times. I wonder if a more experienced tactician would have us in a better place?

LVG Mourinho and Moyes were all extremely experienced ‘tacticians’ with proven track records for success before coming to United.

I think Ole has gotten quite good in champions league tactics/formations/decisions. Don’t think anyone other than mourinho with Porto, has had this strong of a start in UCL. He’s managed like 7 champions league games now and lights out exceeded expectations. Got killed by Barca in 2019 after psg, but we didn’t have the squad that we do now. I hope he can identify what is making the team play so well in Europe, and do the same domestically.

But I see no evidence from our past 8 years that suggests hiring a top tactician would bring success. Ole can be the right person for job if he can identify what he’s doing right in Europe and wrong in premier league.

The area he’s done exceptionally well: developing players. I think Fred/matic/mctom are playing much better compared to mourinho days. Greenwood is being eased in and looking like a star. Rashford is hitting new levels up there with best in the world conversation. Martial was easy - couldn’t get any worse with how the mourinho situation was with him. And I bet we’ll see some new youth academy players break into the team as well.

He seems to excel when we play on the counter against big teams but doesn't seem to have worked out how to play against teams that sit deep, it's a bit confusing.

I don't think he should go though, at least not before the end of this season. It's become quite obvious this summer that Ole isn't the main issue we have.

Great points!! I think like you said the biggest areas of concern for a while have been in the league. In the end, that’s where we’re either going to make or break our seasons, I shudder to think about missing Champions League again and restarting our rebuild process. We have great pieces, I think it’s a matter of continuing to shake off the negative habits that we have picked up under the past managers we have had. To once again possess that brazen swagger that embodies us

Fred was phenomenal last night and all praise be to my MBE Dr Rashford ICON

when we have players to cover the spaces when fred presses it works well.

not sure why ole suddenly played fred pogba and bruno in a europa semi for example. pogba and bruno are never going to cover for fred when he goes to press. the other night we had a flood of midfielders of course and even mason was getting back on the right.

scott and fred also work because they cover for eachother and if we want to press high it makes sense to play them. what i dont get is why ole played both against chelsea and then sat back more? The only way we create enough with a scott and fred midfield is if we press and win the ball higher up the pitch. They are never creating anything from a deeper position.

fred pressed and won the ball in good positions against leipzig, it was great

this is my main problem with ole, he has to get the right midfield combinations to both shield the defence and create chances. if you look at our midfield, it has a bit of everything so we can set up in different ways to win games.

its different against psg when you expect psg to come onto you so you can sit back with scott and fred and a back 5 to counter. why would you assume chelsea would allow space for us to counter after the 4-0 at home last season? at that point there is no need to have scott and fred in the team.

also interesting to see how we approach the assna game

its one thing to play a high press against newcastle and another against defenders who are a bit better on the ball and coached to pass out the back like the assna ones

if the press isnt effective they have aubameyang running inbehind which is their biggest weapon. wonder if it ends up like the chelsea game with both teams wary of each other on the counter

It does frustrate me when Ole who has almost been in charge for two years still doesn’t know what his midfield combo is and that we are still inconsistent with results at times.
    All I want is consistency

Sounds like it's not worked out too great, Arteta must've seen it coming
