Fans turning up their noses at De Ligt is so weird btw. He's the exact profile of player we should be looking at bringing in

De ligt Martinez would be brilliant

Do you guys get everyone I mentioned on your coverage? I always find it odd that it seems like it’s easier to watch from outside the UK.

Depends on the competition/games. Like you’ll get Owen, Hargreaves, and Robbie Savage on champions league and europa league early stages/maybe the odd fa cup or league cup game.

Prem coverage seems to stick to Micah/Neville/Carragher/Keane with the odd switch around.

interesting. for my PL coverage its mostly schmeichel, Sean wright Philips, Owen, Clichy, shearer, scholes. and they'll have the united guys on the Saturday if united plays Saturday, and city guys for sunday if city plays that day, same for Newcastle and other clubs with some former club player pundit.

are we still pretending Onana was good last season

i think once the defence becomes better he might come good but he was generally terrible/mediocre outside a few games.

villa away, liverpool away copenhagen home and everton away the only games i can think of where he was excellent. even other games where he was having a good game like burnley (h) he has a blunder where he gave away a penalty.

there’s just so much he has to improve but he’s 28. goalkeepers last longer than outfielders but even then at this age the clangers he has are horrific. 4 errors leading to goal this szn.

so many saveable goals like the brighton (h) game or andersen goal at home where his positioning is bad and should be making the save. also he’s really bad when he has to save a shot below his knee. foden, doku fa cup final goal, sane goal. he can’t seem to save a shot on the ground very slow at getting down. you might have to get zion suzuki to replace him.

You think Bruno and Mount together in midfield would work though?

probably especially with how many games utd have. just need a proper 6

That defense would’ve made anyone look bad. Facing 20-30 shots per game, mistakes are going to happen, and as a result, they will be amplified.

He had an exponentially better season than De Gea did last year with a much worse defense.

u did face way too many shots but i still feel like he coulda done a lot better. i remember 22/23 liverpool we were shocking defensively but alisson was makn big saves all the time. onana hasn’t done that.

Eh, I just don't buy the defence excuse for throwing the ball into his own net

Fundamentally there's too many issues with him, regardless of what's in front of him - his core job he struggled to do

I don’t really get it either, would be a far superior signing to Brantwaite imo, although I think we should go for someone faster

Don't exactly watch any Bayern so just going off Reddit, but Bayern fans on there all seem to suggest he's not failed at all. They largely seem to rate him as their best defender (especially in Nagelsman's time) and have been annoyed at Tuchel for not playing him. They also say he's among the biggest leaders in their squad and one of the few who seems to give a s***.

Struggled with injuries last season though yes.

De Ligt missed 20 games this season. Licha missed 34. Be a twitchy feeling to go into next season with those two as our first choice CBs.

The key thing is we clearly have multiple targets listed at CB, so if the Branthwaite deal collapses and Everton don’t play ball, there are alternatives.

Branthwaite, De Ligt, Todibo, Yoro, loose links to Bremer etc. clear we are going to sign at least one CB this summer.

We would be extremely dumb to not sign two, especially when we already lost Varane and can easily offload the likes of Maguire Lindelof and Evans

Yeah narrative that he failed at Juve and Bayern is extremely unfounded. He was good at Juve but he primarily left because of their poor finances and point deductions, they needed to sell and got quite a lot from Bayern for him. At Bayern he’s got f***ed over by a mediocre coach in Ratatuchel

feeling a ridiculous 70m+ amount for Branthwaite in mid/late august after failing with multiple bids and then a free agent Hummels signing or something

  • Jun 15, 2024

Todibo should be the priority imo, could get him for a decent price and the deal would be relatively easy to get over the line imo

Todibo + de Ligt sounds like the ideal scenario for y’all now plus United can get these two nearly for the amount of one Branthwaite I’m afraid

no hate towards Branthwaite but he is not a 70-80m player to me even with the english tax, him going to United just screams maguire v2 to me, better to avoid

Maguire was far superior back in his Leicester days than Branthwaite is too

I think he’d do alright but splashing a lot of money on him seems like the silly thing to do to me, can possibly get two players for his price…. only case where splashing out would be worth it is Yoro but there’s like 2-3 clubs ahead of United i’m afraid so that’s more of a phantasm

Yeah, this isn’t happening. We haven’t spent all year chasing directors of footballs and CEOs to continue to act in this way.

In an ideal world, yeah. But we don’t have an unlimited budget and we have other positions of priority.

Only way I see another CB (as in 2 this summer) is if Lindelof goes. Maguire should and will stay as a senior leader in the team. Evans is a non-entity — 5th/6th choice on a 1 year deal and you’d imagine inconsequential wages.
