If our requirements for a manager is that they must overcome our club’s financial and squad situation and still be successful in the league and challenge for trophies then it’s time to start looking at who is above them

you can't have it both ways. if your club is as bad as utd is right now you need to bottom out proper and restart again. you can't expect trophies without rebuilding properly. that's how you become a mid-table club.

The only one that is good enough for a club the size and legacy of United is an all-competent Fergie-like father figure that can take all the heat and stress off his players and manage to bring out their individual brilliance at the right time
