    Sprout Spreghorst

If we weren’t to include the context around the situation you might have a point

The context doesn't matter - you'll learn eventually!!

Why post that like I couldn’t list 17 managers that have beaten us this season

Because Dyche is the one doing the interview? Isn't that obvious?

And he still lost to the absolute all time worst thing to ever happen to the club LOL

    This.

    Baldy f***ing us over again.

That was Ineos decision by then no? Think they were firmly in charge when Alvaro was shipped off.

The actual terrorist manager was playing Amrabat at left back over him though

😂 I forgot about the amrabat days that was dark. Ugarte is basically a skinnier amrabat tho.

Berrada said the days of a player staying longer than they should are over so hopefully we f*** Ugarte off, terrible signing

Am I being overdramatic in thinking that losing to Spurs would send the club into the shadow realm?

    You’re correct unfortunately

    this is not an alt

So what? We can still buy him for 15 and sell him for 30 to Madrid. I know that’s what Madrid would’ve done.

You know the player also has to sign the contract

  • DwindlingSun

Yeah you’re right didn’t think it all the way through. He probably doesn’t want to f*** over Benfica. Madrid will probably ‘ask’ us to bid 15 mil for him so they can buy him at 30 from us, but at that point Benfica will just lower the price to 30 for Madrid. At least this is what Madrid would do if they were smart.

  • Still think that if we went for him instead of Dorgu he would’ve come back in January tbh. Now that Madrid is knocking of course he’s not interested in returning to the PL

I mean we literally still built one of the best teams of all time and won lots of league titles and made 3 CL finals etc with them firmly in charge. I think it’s more so how good SAF was at establishing a culture, bringing in more of the right players than wrong, and infecting everyone with his inability to do nothing less than win.

Wouldn’t it be fair to say the decay actually did start as soon as the Glazers came in (not investing their own money) and the fact they were still succesful was more thanks to the continuitity under SAF rather than some form of healthy cooperation between the directors?

What does 'healthy cooperation between the directors' mean exactly. We had Sir Alex and we had David Gill, those two were as healthy as co-operators could be. Glazers have never meddled in day to day in the way that Abramovich did, Marinakis does, and rightfully so.

In terms of transfers, Sir Alex has always maintained that never once were the Glazers unwilling to pay for a requested player.

Stadium/facility issues have only seemingly arisen over the last decade.

The problem is the day SAF/Gill retired. It's clear as day there were no succession plans in place & those who made the replacement hiring decisions were clearly incapable of doing so.

So I guess the question is, who's responsible for that? Then the issue snowballs, because other things happen like the stadium going from being fairly regularly updated to nothing, Carrington as well - both left to essentially rot.

The Athletic reported the other day The Glazers were very involved at one point - even wives/husbands were attending board meetings.

You could get away with terrible owners because SAF/Gill were so good it almost didn't matter for the time they were still around. Cracks were starting to appear though by 2013 - aging squad etc.

Ah i wrongfully assumed there were other directors involved in the decisionmaking above Gill and Ferguson.

But yeah those two seemed to have kept the boat afloat

Yeah, so basically the incompetent Glazers didn’t have any meaningful impact on the success of United aside from greenlighting an already well oiled machine.

I believe so, until 2013 at least. Then you have to be more conscious with the decisions and they start hiring non football people, bankers etc. Commercially I think they got it right but obviously every other aspect, where it actually matters, they were so far off the mark they've nearly killed the club

Yeah David gill doesn’t get enough credit for how he ran things. Especially after we got Woodward as a successor.

Yeah we’ve failed to replace both David gill and SAF. Hopefully berrada can get closer to Gill level. Jury very much out on that and may be an impossible job under ratcliffe.

5 days in between this and final I expect full strength.

    Onana
    Maz Maguire Shaw
    Amad Bruno Case Dorgu
    Mount Garnacho
    Hojlund

Key difference being Abramovich and Marinakis put their money into the club rather than the Glazers spending club revenue and taking dividends out of the club

Surely controlling the money is far more impactful than day to day micromanaging

Funny isn't it, most people would moan if he played this side because of the final - ignoring the fact you need game rhythm etc

    Tough balance
