Angel Di Maria's wife wasn't fond of life in Manchester.

Discussing the Argentine winger's dismal one-year spell at Manchester United in 2014, Jorgelina Cardoso launched a scathing attack on the city, its culture, and its residents.

"I remember Angel coming up and saying, 'An offer from Manchester United has come in. Maybe we'll be a little more financially secure,'" Cardoso explained during an appearance on Spanish television, as quoted by ESPN.

Di Maria moved from Real Madrid to United in a £59.7-million deal - a British record at the time - but endured a woeful spell before quickly being shipped off to Paris Saint-Germain the following summer.

"It was horrible. Manchester is the worst. It is all horrible in Manchester," Cardoso said. "In fact, I fought a lot with Angel about it. We lived in Madrid, Angel played in the best team in the world, which for me is Real Madrid. We were perfect, the weather was perfect, the food was perfect. And suddenly he said that there was a proposal to go to Manchester. I told him, 'Not a chance. You are going alone.' 'No, come on. Let's go,' he replied."

She continued: "I didn't want to go to Manchester because I am friends with Gianinna Maradona, who was married to (Manchester City's) Sergio Aguero, and we flew from Madrid to his house in Manchester to pay him a visit for two or three days when Angel had a few days off at Real Madrid.

"It was horrible, s***. We went to the house and we were like, 'See you later guys, we're out of here.' When we left, I said to him, 'Go to any country - except England.' Anyway, one year later and there we were in England."

Cardoso was apparently not a fan of the people, either.

"The people are all pasty-faced, prim and proper ... weird. They're walking down the street and you don't know if they're going to kill you or what. The food's disgusting. All the girls are all dolled up to the nines, perfectly made-up, and there's me with my hair in a bun and with no make-up on," she said, continuing her critique.

Since his 2015 move to the French capital, Di Maria's been an integral part of PSG's success, helping the club win four Ligue 1 titles and six domestic cups.

You'd have to imagine everyone at home is much happier, too.

I spent the last few days watching every single official season review from 1989 through 2013. each one is like 1.5 hours.

    AMA.

not that often. but ima re-watch the 07-08 once more. Cantona was the bigger record that stands out. down 10 points when he came back after incident. cantona scored in 7 games in a row half of which were 1:0 wins - his goals.

  • May 16, 2020

Summer of 95 truly shaped everything and I didnt realize this fully before.

Ince, Kanchelskis, Sparky gone. Cantona banned till October. Allows Beckham Scholes butt show their class. Goals we scored starting that season are sensational. Any other club would have spent $$ that summer to go and replace.

    Not United and Ferguson.

threw it all the way back to FM18 and threw it all the way back to the 95-96 season.

First order of business - had to give Cantona a proper partner up top instead of Cole...
