We are bending over a bit too much for Ten Hag

The club thinks “backing the manager” is blindly going after only his targets. Even Klopp and Pep don’t get that treatment — they have scouts and teams in place to choose from a pool of players that suit the system.

    Us on the other hand:

    • We signed Martinez specifically for him for an inflated fee (note: our scouts hadn’t watched him extensively and actually had to discard our main interest in Pau Torres for him)
    • We signed a LB when we already had 3 at the club (also from the Dutch league)
    • We have pursued Frenkie de Jong for over 13 weeks (at the behest of the manager) when it doesn’t look remotely clear he wants to join, and the manager has no alternative in mind.
    • Now we are linked to a 33 year old midtable Italian league striker because our manager had him as a player over 10 years ago at the start of his career.

It’s batshit crazy is what this is.

Love how United finally discovered under the radar targets and they end up being Arno and Rabiot

Alright yeah. Even I'm struggling to find the words for the latest developments.

Martinez and Malacia were perfectly fine signings imo. Martinez was expensive but Torres has his faults too and is also expensive. So makes sense going with Ten Hag's preference. Malacia was very cheap and Lyon were on the verge of buying him so made sense.

Rabiot and Arnautovic are just ludicrous.

On De Jong, if Ten Hag genuinely never bothered to actually check whether he would come then yeah that's stupid. Don't really care even if it takes till deadline day though. But yeah obviously if De Jong really does not want to come then we should have moved on ages ago. But who knows whats really going on.

Garner should be properly blooded into the first 11 asap.

The problem is not the players we’ve signed so far, it’s the players we haven’t

We needed a CB and Malacia was 13m. There is budget for a CM and RW, they clearly do want to sign somebody. They just haven't identified anyone they deem suitable for CM beyond De Jong (in terms of a major non-Rabiot stop gap esque signing). And for RW/ST they haven't been able to get Nunez, Sesko or Antony.

What do you mean let them.

meaning we didn’t strong-arm the f*** outta them being the larger club with a larger budget + closer ties to both players

(Halaand being a norweigen who played under legendary norweigen striker and man utd manager at the time, ole solskjaer, at molde and knows his family; Jude being a young non-german-speaking englishman)

Got absolutely nothing to do with budget or anything else.

Haaland wanted a stepping stone that would provide a cheap release clause and hefty signing on bonus and agent fee at his next club.

Bellingham picked Dortmund because they are very effective at developing young players.

What exactly else did you expect us to do. You don't get every player. Especially not in those circumstances.

Thiago, Kroos, Herrera (a season prior), Mane.

It's not that we havent targeted good players. But the deals haven't been done for various reasons that go far beyond budget. Managers deciding against it or the players simply getting offers from clubs they deemed more attractive.
