Seen a clip of a guy grinding over ramps n walls through the entire stage. You gotta do all that to compete online nowadays?

Got the game about a month ago. It's fun, but I had a feeling that the kinda skill required to be good online will barely have you interacting with the actual track.

Decided to just play around for a bit online to get an idea, and sure enough, I was maybe one of four people actually using the track. Everybody else was getting off track shortcuts by coasting on wires/edges and wall riding

“Compete online” is hard to answer. Just like in MK8, if you’re in a high level room then ofc you need advanced tactics or else you’ll get crushed. In the lower level rooms you’ll be fine without much tech. Knockout tour in particular doesn’t need a ton of tech to have success. But the parkour stuff is the key new element in this game and it’s integral so yea if you don’t like that they added Tony hawk pro skater into Mario kart then you can only enjoy this game to a certain extent. The parkour is super fun so I do recommend trying it but if u only like accelerating and drifting and using items then you’ll stay in beginner mode in mkw

Once u get the hang of the tricks, wall rides and grinding this game reaches a generational flow state. The game isn’t perfect it has some issues that could be improved but the core racing/tricking is phenomenal
