Was the lady in Marty’s mums apartment building trans or am I trippin

dude was obsessed with the casting i doubt any visibly trans people made it unless they were super passing, even then i doubt it

i’d even go as far to say there’s a lot of directors that would specifically not cast trans ppl for a period piece, unless it was about trans people / set in NYC for obvious reasons

wish i liked this more . it was fun and at its best marty is the most exhilarating safdie main character but man it's way more poorly constructed than GT and UG

agreed on structure

felt like josh threw it all on the wall and didnt even wait to see what sticks

the fact that he was seriously considering the vampire ending leads me to believe this scripts re writes were not even close to as rigorous as uncut gems

uncut gems on the umpteenth rewatch still has its edge and grip on the audience bc it’s just paced so f***ing well. they make such a strong statement without telling you exactly what they’re thinking

marty felt like it WANTED to say something grand and epic, but was too invested in being a showcase for an actors chops than being an airtight script. felt like they kept it loose and free flowing to get the signature kinetic energy.

it’s very dialogue heavy, i think that part is brilliant but the actual plot itself has hills and valleys

On paper yeah because Timmy is a better actor. But honestly I think it comes down to the story. I feel like the Safdies are great at bringing out good performances from their cast and I think The Rock is in good hands.
