I felt like narrative was shaping that way most of the year…but idk Leo could really take it depending on how campaign goes. Wasn’t anticipating he’d show up that strong

Would be a bit rough to lose in back to back years against actors who already won best actor tho

Leo definitely in the running too but so many actors take up screentime in OBAA that that movie doesnt really feel like the Leo show

Josh still used Bronstein and OPN while Benny just decided to go at a film as a solo director, writer and editor for better or worse. At the end of the day we still have two Safdie films so it’s a win

Was thinking about that too recently but I’m curious if that’d actually hurt him cus he’s sort of the glue that ties the movie still. If OBAA is actually a potential BP winner that could work in his favor like it did Oppenheimer and EEAAO casts in recent years. Or Anora cus Mikey kinda finessed last minute

He’s also been pretty unselfish this whole run and went out of his usual way to promote the film for PTA. Im wondering what might change if he sees an opening and wants to campaign hard

Of the 7 films to win both lead acting awards, only 3 have gone on to win Best Picture. Given the circumstances, I don’t think it’s at all a guarantee that two lead acting wins is going to be enough topple the behemoth that OBAA is. Buckley is practically getting a free run, there’s nobody from OBAA she has to beat, hell there might only be two Best Actress nominees from Best Picture nominees this year.

Regardless, the momentum seems to favor Mescal going supporting, and with this praise now for Timmy, I think that’s only going to get stronger. I don’t really think the Academy is salivating at the thought of giving Penn another Oscar, and Sentimental Value is losing steam by the day. Much easier path.
