some people find it interesting to use a real life person to craft a story out of, like jake lamotta in raging bull, it adds a layer
Jake LaMotta was so much more famous than either of these subjects. Incomparably so.
Rocky Balboa is a better template in most cases. Nobody cares about Rocky Graziano.
And I just don't think "the challenge of a real character" is an actual thing. It's never real. It's based on one book or doc with a specific take. It's tailored to the actor who gets the role.

i mean thats besides the point, arent we talking about what the movie could be? the fact that its a "biopic" isn't a limiting factor in the case of raging bull, and i don't think it would be here either, since the content of dude's life seems written for josh to tackle
it's not what a movie is about, it's how it's about it
all this other s*** is just pointless speculation

I just don't know why you need to introduce more boundaries. I know those can be a boon to creativity, but filmmaking is already very difficult.
Just seems like a pitch thing. You have better comps if you go in saying yeah it's a biopic. Yeah like Moneyball and The Blind Side. Then you go to the actor and say the Academy really likes this stuff you know.
Again, I thought The Iron Claw had a really interesting take. It's easy to prove me wrong. We're just arguing about a premise, and I'd rather them draw from the spirit of roided out 90s MMA than one character. You'd need Jody Hill and Danny McBride to do it justice. That would be closer to the truth than any biopic.
"Reisman, who died in 2012, was a table tennis champion who started his career as a hustler in Manhattan, playing for bets and prize money."
looks it
Yeah I read that so I’m hoping that’s what we get.
Do you think Safdies should ever slow it down again like they use to (daddy long legs)? Not sure if the anxiety pace will ever feel like a gimmick to people sooner or later

Some people don’t know/remember and get surprised when you mention he was on Interstellar

they'll probably switch it up or we'll see how each one goes individually, they both have good taste in cinema so i think they can branch out into different flows as they mature
i always thought that the next film they do will be their punch drunk love but now that they split we'll see what happens

Were you thinking the baseball movie woulda been that? Cus when it first was announced we were still thinking both would be working on it

yeah like just in the sense that they would have a style revitalization and make an evolution jump
Don't care if it's a biopic or not, I just want heaps of style. And sometimes biopic format limits that
