They’ll try to tell you differently but this just a result of chalamet being branded as the “cool actor white guy” now, the sadfies a24 hype and how can I forget the tyler the creator fanboys.

I will say this though the safdies sure know how to promote a movie. They generate early 00s hype in an industry in an era where that’s becoming rarer every year.

I applaud the marketing here cus its very creative, I just feel like there's a bit of a disconnect. Its hard to relate blimps, bomber jackets, and Timmy's celebrity status to a 1950's period sports drama about a table tennis player. I wish there was more of a way to hype the character Marty Mauser himself. Like the Wheaties box in the film and stuff.

If i didn't follow movies, I'd have no idea what this all was for. It looks it could just as much be Timmy's personal brand or a new fashion line. As a counterargument, I guess reinforcing the cinephiles and the base who were already going to be there is the best way to go too since this needs reliable audiences during a holiday where an Avatar movie will dominate theaters and general audiences.

Was just thinking this an hour ago. I love it, love seeing an actor go for it in this way, everything he’s doing is awesome but it’s so disconnected visually and tonally from the movie. It’s like Timmy’s doing his own separate roll out for himself as a winter 2025 celebrity and it just so happens to coincide with the movie. It’s interesting and never really been done before but it would be cool to see more Marty specific stuff with a visual and aesthetic language that connects with the movie
