His original father was Fu Manchu a character made up by some racist Brit novelist early 20th century who became an archetype for the evil Chinese mastermind with the long moustache (that moustache is named after him) and appeared in a ton of all types of media as the Chinese baddy who Marvel later secured the rights of too . I think the original comic run was stereotypical dumb s*** overall too which I guess you'd expect for the 70s

Marvel been trying to tell China this incarnation is a different character and nothing to do with that but it's pretty shaky foundations for something they were going to be cynical over to begin with. He's supposed to be the Mandarin in this but that's still a Chinese supervillain with I'm sure probably its own sketchy history

She was written that way tho? Her grandma/family dynamic is exactly what immigrant families are like when they have children in America or wherever they move to.

She doesn’t speak Chinese or mandarin like it’s part of her character she’s meant to be Americanised

she pretty much was! being that type of chinese-american or child of an immigrant isn't bad lol theres millions of people exactly like that.

Just watched this tonight, the movie went to a straight up fantasy route, but its crazy how the 'normal world' holds more authority over all these powers. I liked how they paid homage to Jackie Chan. 8.5/10

Definitely looking forward to watching Shang Chi again
