ohhhhhh very possible. i more so meant scared of the villains but maybe its fair he generally is and has a good social circle to diffuse that stuff? im totally with you on the masking as a possibility. The fights just often feel like they have no stakes! I will say i should probably rewatch the holland movies.

I think part of tobey's fear is on top of the general anxiety he has about keeping his identity a secret. And the fact we get to see the villains get some gruesome kills.

i think holland excels in some aspects but like the entire premise of nwh was him doing something super dumb and selfish against strange's advice which seems...pointless? Kinda makes him less endearing even though his version of peter has some charm. But i do like how he performs in the role because those parts of his character aren't always in the other iterations (Which is hard because the comic is so old).

i think Tom’s interpretation would be more aligned with ultimate spiderman while Tobey was more aligned with the older comics, especially with the emphasis on him being essentially still nerdy and lame even as Spiderman

i love that tom's spidey is way more accurately nerdy. tobeys peter kinda ditches that after school and we mostly see him as a blue collar dude even though in 2 you still get a sense hes a man of science when next to doc oc

yea i think it was hard for Raimi to balance all the nerd s*** with tryna portray Tobey as a young adult tryna survive in New York as a photographer. Tom was already not struggling before even his first movie thanks to Tony so i think they were able to lean into more of the nerdy s*** as a result

hell yea saw it friday in dolby. Had a great time even if i'm littering this and the spoiler thread with my criticism and thoughts about it not quite hitting the mark. I really have a soft spot for the raimi trilogy but honestly most superhero movies that have stakes and don't hold back just cus its pg-13. especially since peter is a character while, often outsmarts his villains, also gets his ass kicked lol.

    You will probably have fun!!

    Bet

    Let’s see he checks notes

    • almost gets everyone on a ferry killed
    • vaporized in space fighting Thanos
    • comes back just to see his mentor kill himself
    • identity exposed to the public
    • tries to rehab a guy who kills his auntie and tried to kill his gf
    • everyone forgets he exists, forced to see his friends move on in life without him
    • turning into a f***ing spider
    • damn near gets killed again trying to help the villain out in this movie

but yeah no struggles at all with this character

  • the more i think about this movie bro

this is a definitive spiderman story for me

feel like i grown up with this mf from reading the civil war casting rumours to this

I can’t help but think some people are preventing themselves from enjoying MCU Spiderman because they are constantly comparing him to the Raimi adaptation

I was that guy until no way home. Nostalgia was really hitting but like its hard to hate mcu spidey. I just need more adult age spiderman films. It would've hit harder if I was a kid or like in high school when the mcu spideys launched.

But now I think Tom's my goat. But I need a couple really good adult age spiderman movies. This was good but not great. There's some things they nailed and some they gotta work on. Definitely needed a better villain at least.

i get what you're saying and i should be more specific. for me the weight of a lot of these moments doesn't really hit because of the overarching tone of most of his movies and how they treat some of these moments, which is the point i was poorly making. i had a great time at this one and this was my favorite of the 4. but i get you and the stuff I don't like as much is sticking with me a bit more than it needs to.

Comparing a Spider Man movie to a Spider Man movie

    Seems fair enough?
