I'm currently two thirds of the way through this movie and not for a second do I buy Florence Pugh as an action star. Her frame is so small and pudgy it's almost hilarious seeing her beat up dudes twice her size. At least with Scar Jo given her frame I could suspend my disbelief enough to enjoy the films. Florence Pugh is a good actor but she is horribly miscast in this esp from an action perspective.
Also the movie itself is not funny and kinda dull. I do like that the stakes a bit low-key though.
Compare this to Gunns Suicide Squad another motley crue antihero film... The quality of writing is night and day

Disagree with every single word in this post
respectfully
watching this right now and find that it’s absolutely hilarious you’d have ZERO clue of who john walker is unless you watched their tv show. not only would you not know, but they IMO expect you to know his back story immediately (i’m sure they go on to explain it during the movie (i’m only an hour in)) but i still find it funny and silly
this was fun. different type of superhero flick for sure. still good action and likable characters. post cred was dope
after sitting on it, i like really didn’t enjoy this movie.
it felt extremely hollow and empty for some reason
it really just felt like its sole purpose was to setup the post credits scene, and give us a little story letting us know what the characters were up to leading up to doomsday and secret wars. i understand that is what movies between avengers are supposed to serve as! this one just felt extra meh, i watched all the media that ties into this movie and still couldn’t find the characters to be compelling

Between this, F4, the next movie being a street level Spider-Man and then x-men rollout after Avengers. It doesn’t seem like MCU plans on using individual movies to set up their big team ups anymore which I think is a positive for the individual franchises
Still the best superhero film of the year
Finally
Sinners came out the same time and almost made as much and was on streaming a month ago
If they got rid of all the sappy one liners for jokes during every serious moment, and fully leaned into the more… gritty? introspective? Side of the movie, this would’ve been a 10/10 for me. I didn’t need or want any comic relief in this film given the subject matter.
