No, it’s clever marketing. They need to pick songs that will sell well. Awesome mix volume one is still on the charts afterNever leaving.

But considering Gunn is an "album cuts" type of dude with his music choices, and Starlord is prolly gonna be more emo/downbeat in this iteration, (getting gamora back but he can't love her, whatever sadness is coming in the movie's plot itself, etc.) I see no reason why he wouldn't pick some sad songs that were popular in the 90s

Why would 90s nostalgia not sell well when we just starting to get out of the phase of 80s nostalgia
