tl dr but I knew that Diddy was being mad hypocritical with that speech because I know hes f***ed a ton of artists over in the past.
TDLR Version:
1. Mase feels Diddy is a Hypocrite for preaching Black Excellence, Black Artist rights, and doing the opposite
2. Diddy bought Mase's publishing for $20k, Mase offered to pay $2 Million for ownership out of respect. Diddy will only give him his publishing if he matches an offer this European/White Man offered Diddy for it.
But thats why I cant fully agree with Meeks tweet of labels robbing young artists being just a White executive thing
One of the first stories of shady deals in Hip Hop is the Sugar Hill Gang. "Rappers Delight" was one of the biggest rap songs of all time and the Black owned label they signed to (run by Sylvia Robinson) f***ed them over and they barely got anything from it financially.
Then you have Diddy, Pebbles with TLC, Birdman, etc.
We've been robbing each other before the White labels even got a piece of the genre. The predatory behavior over young talent is as old as the music industry is in my opinion and goes beyond race or gender.
if youre a boss/ceo and high up, you get there and stay there by taking advantage of people who dont know better. pretty much
you look at any successful business man/woman and youre looking at someone who stepped on alot of people to get there
Diddy and Hov been hypocrites. At the end of the day, they only care about their money. Everything they say is PR so dumb mfs will keep supporting them and they can keep using people

Right, but it becomes a problem when those same people are at the forefront of rights for Black Artists when theyve made a career of signing Black Artists to shady deals.
Diddy isn't wrong with his message, but hes not the right face for this movement at all.
Good for Mase. Most people have known that Diddys been dirty. Jay and Diddy have always been all about their own money, which fine whatever, but don’t try and rebrand and try to talk about the issues when you’re part of the problem.

absolutely agree with you
never trust rich ppl
never trust rich ppl
This is true.
I've been in a similar boat, but you falsely go into situations like that thinking "It's a Brother that seems like he knows what he's talking about, he seems to get good results on the surface level", and that plus your ambition being high will make you jump on that.
I dont blame Mase for not reading the contract, bc 1, he was a 19 year old from Harlem, so he didnt have industry knowledge, he saw from the outside how successful Biggie, Jodeci, Mary J Blige and Faith were and was prolly open, and another thing is contracts can be constructed in a way where they can look straightforward but be deceptive even if you do read it.
He got zoed but I blame Diddy for being a predator more than I blame Mase for being the prey. To me it's worse to see a Black Executive play an artist out of money than when a White Executive does it.
Apparently even Biggie was broke when he died. That makes perfect sense why he put Junior MAFIA and Cam'ron on to Un and not Diddy.
Oh boo hoo,
You signed the deal my son.
Hes not "crying" about it
He said he was willing to pay $2 Million out of his pocket to get his publishing back. To me that speaks to him taking personal responsibility on his end for signing the bad deal.
Honestly that's far more than what Taylor Swift is willing to do with Scooter. She is actually crying about it, Mase is just calling out Diddy for his hipocrisy and using his experiences as an example.

Just because he signed it means it wasn’t exploitative?

Did i say that?
Did i say that?
The implication is clearly that he has no right to complain considering he signed onto it

Speak on it king 👑
Ngl when I got to the part about him offering Diddy 2 million in cash, sounded like
