I’m moving to Massachusetts this Friday from Pennsylvania and I’m just trying to see if there’s anyone on here that lives there or has lived up there. Going to grad school in Boston but living a bit outside of it.

Would very much appreciate any advice about the area and would be down to link up with ktt2 fam when this pandemic anxiety is dead.

    how far out of boston?

bostons real nice but over time it will get old. also most of the city shuts down after 9pm. surprisingly when i was living there most stores would close near downtown around 6-7.

theres good food but id say it somewhat lacks in ethnic cuisines, at least when i was there.

id say its ideal to live directly in the city but it is what it is. get a charliecard for the T, explore alot, cambridge is also nice, take advantage of the new england states (RI/ME/VT/NH) since theyre all relatively close.

What do you want to know?

I went to philly before and compared to boston philly is bigger and has more to offer imo. Bostons way cleaner tho for what its worth, and even tho I hated the T when i was there its a lot better than the trains in philly

Food is pretty good in places like dorchester, mattapan, jamaica plain but the first two can be sketchy at times but as long as youre not a weirdo you wont have problems. I recommend simcos for general “american” food like subs and burgers, alexs chimi for spanish food, and wings n tings for wings.

Surrounding cities like revere, somerville, brockton, chestnut hill, etc all have cool things to do in terms of bars, clubs, food, general s*** to do (brockton is prolly the most sketch tho lol, but again just dont be a weirdo and dont attract attention, common sense)

Lmk if theres anything you want to know specifically

I think it's just about an hour outside of it in New Bedford. It's right by a bunch of ferry's and Rhode Island I believe.

That's crazy everything shuts down so early. I live near Philly and I feel like they usually have things open the latest out of everywhere that I've been. Minus Delaware beaches.

S*** at this point I kinda need to know everything. Was planning on coming up and peeping the area before committing to the apartment but COVID got in the way of that.

Appreciate the recommendations for the food spots and info on specific areas.

What about local chains? What grocery stores are in Mass?

Word word I think we used to have stop and shop here or at least in Jersey.

Is there anything open late? Not so much a grocery store but is there Wawa or something similar?

Grocery stores you got star market, boston market, roche bros, whole foods, etc youre never far from a grocery store.

I peeped you said new bedford, thats a bit away from the city so i cant tell you much about that, but atleast youre near the cape. Great beaches, great seafood, das about it. Has liberal areas but since its not a main city can be considered the boonies.

7/11 and cumberland farms (cumbies) is the go to corner store types that are usually open late, if not then 24/7.
Local chains imo that slap are tasty burger, s*** is A1. Wings over Boston is t*** for late night eatery. Lots of chinese places are open pretty late too

I'm from Cambridge/lived there the first 18 years of my life. If you move to Boston - Cambridge is definitely worth visiting. One of the best cities in the world imo. Full of culture/great night life/good people, restaurants, things to do. Everything you could ask for in a city imo.
