i don’t think artists really owe anyone a play by play explanation of their work, but i do think they owe it to themselves to know what their work is about and imprint some meaning to it. in art school i’d have to explain my work, when i make art i know what it’s about for sure, so i definitely think it’s a worth while pursuit to talk about it and interpret what those symbols mean. it’s why threads like this exist !
