Morpheous is a composite made out of grief more than anything else

"NPH's A***yst is an evolution of the Architect, and by extension the nature of propaganda and dictatorship. The Architect is Big Brother from 1984 or communist China, harshly suppressing resistance with brute force. Mass violence, re-education camps, etc.

The A***yst is akin to modern propaganda, selling people on a narrative they want to believe over the truth (which they don't bother to hide nor do they ever address). It's like eastern European dictatorships where they hold free elections, even allowing a measure of opposition victories, but subtly control the makeup of critical races so the parry of the president always wins. There's still violence, but it's surgical: arresting, killing or exiling key opponents over a violation of byzantine laws while leaving the bulk of the movement to discouragement and fatalism.
