The wardrobe is deviating hard on purpose to make a point. It kind of makes the opposite point to building a statue out of the character. How do you reconcile the movie telling you nothing is sacred, don't be a fanboy, kill your darlings, etc with it also telling you this is actual sentimentality? That you should be emotionally invested in this parody?
It's not only contradictory, it's dishonest and patronizing.
